Information such as slope and land use are essential for environmental planning, as they help in solving problems caused by intense activities such as agriculture and livestock. The aim of this thesis was to conduct a study of environmental zoning in Itaipu lake as a way to measure non-structural variables making use of the slope and vegetation type.
The survey was done from remote sensing analysis of the region using Landsat satellite images and field work. The procedure of splitting the risk areas was performed by unsupervised clustering technique using fuzzy logic, implemented in the Fuzzy CMeans algorithm. It was found that non-ideal situations presented 7.985ha vegetation, becoming hazardous areas on the sedimentation pond. Considering the quality and maintenance requirements of water resources, the present study aimed to present methodological procedures which besides providing a study of the actual situation of the areas around the lake Itaipu, may be used in other environments, which have potential environmental impacts related to agricultural activity. Not only restricted to the
determination of risk areas, we sought to determine and indicate alternative crops for these regions, with a view to aspects productive, commercial and financial sustainability and producers.
