Resumo:
The childcare consultation is dedicated to monitoring the process of child development, and may be called preventive pediatrics. It consists of a healthy child care and can thus prevent injuries, as well as guide the family to preventive care, thus allowing early interventions on any growth and development problems. Objective: To understand the actions implemented in the childcare nursing consultation, from the experience of mothers. Method: Qualitative descriptive-exploratory research, conducted from November to December 2017, with 13 mothers of children under two years old enrolled in two family health units in the city of Cuité-Paraíba. Data were collected from interviews guided by semi-structured script and analyzed according to content analysis proposed by Minayo. Results: The analysis allowed the construction of a thematic category: Experience of mothers about the actions performed in the childcare nursing consultation, based on three subcategories: Stages of the consultation; Weaknesses and Contributions to comprehensive care. The consultation is focused only on the complaint of mothers, occurs quickly and objectively without much investigation. The biggest weakness was the issue of building links between the health professional and the community that was not effective, the non-continuity of care in other segments and the use of enforcement strategies to ensure care. It was also possible to verify some contributions to the effectiveness of childcare consultation, such as the use of instant communication technologies, some mothers reported a strong bond. Final considerations: Nursing consultation in childcare represents an important contribution to the reduction of infant morbidity and mortality. However, the study found some weaknesses to guarantee this strategy.
