Resumo:
The determination of some of the main variables that influence the development of the vegetative cycle of the semi-arid Northeast cultures and its statistical study is the basis of the present research, established for the sertaneja region of Paraíba state. A deterministic model allowed the knowledge of the beginning, end and duration of the effective rainfall period, based on experience and the actual water need for crops. The nature of these statistical variables was analyzed by the best fit between 8 normally applicable distributions. Pearson III presented better results. The work allowed the definition of the beginning, the end and the duration of the rainy season for the various locations of the Paraíba hinterland, as well as allowing to describe geographically the modification of those variables. The results should provide agricultural technicians with insights to plan their field activities more safely.
