Resumo:
Identify the changes that occur in the family after the children leave; ascertain the feelings and behaviors presented by parents after their children leave; verify the strategies used by parents to minimize the missing child (s). Method: a qualitative study conducted with eleven parents, from April to May 2018, using the semi-structured interview. The collected material was analyzed by content analysis. Results: Three empirical categories emerged from this research: The first approached the main changes that occurred in the marital relationship, the second category identified positive and negative feelings experienced by parents at the moment of empty nest and in the third category it was observed that The strategies used to minimize child absence were related to religiosity, social support and work. Final considerations: Given this, the Empty Nest moment is expressed as a common event in contemporary times, directly affecting the health of parents and family dynamics.
