The phytotherapy, or the therapy through use of herbs with healing effects, is one of the oldest therapeutic practices in human history, with records of plants application since 8.500 BC. The creation of public politicies turned to rational use of healing plants and of phytotherapy inside the One Health System (SUS) encourages greater dissemination of this practice. Among the developed actions there is the National Policies of Healing Plants and Phytotherapic Medicine. Nowadays, the use of plants, mainly of topical use applied to skin diseases, has generated many discussions about utilisation among health professionals due its advantages as, low cost, less adverse effects and acessibility to poor people. This work aims to realise a bibliographic survey about phytotherapic pharmaceutic ways of topical use. To selection of scientific articles has been used electronic database, Capes periodic, Eletronic Library Online (SciELO), Science Direct, e PubMed, Brazil Flora digital archive produced by National Library of Medicine in the Bioscience Area and the acquis of the Federal University’s library of Campina Grande (UFCG), campus Cuité-PB, among articles, essays and thesis, a total of 196 works have been gathered from what 60 were used, whose publication period was from 2001 to 2018. Therefore, we conclude that, even with the growing production of academic works in the phytotherapic medicine area, the brazilian government has to invest more, so the researchers may develop more studies on that subject, considering the large amount of plants with potential to development of drugs.
