Abstract:
This work deals with the investigation of concrete using rock aggregates. Research is of particular importance due to the abundance of laterite aggregates and scarcity of rock aggregates in the tropical and subtropical regions of northern and northeastern Brazil. The purpose of this research was to study the behavior and engineering properties of this type of concrete with particular emphasis on the strength properties. Several concrete mixtures for different water / cement factors were studied during this work. It has been observed that this type of concrete behaves similarly to normal concrete, but does not require the costs to the operations required by the rock aggregates (blasting, transportation, crushing, etc.). It is concluded that this lateritic concrete can be safely used in several cases as an economically viable building material in the smallest engineering works, highway base, or concrete masses.
