Résumé:
To evaluate pediatric acute pain in the postoperative period of general surgeries in a public Paraíba. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study done in a pediatric unity of a public hospital in Campina Grande – PB with children aged 2 to 12 years old that underwent surgical procedures from February to March of 2018. The data socio-demographic and clinical variables were collected with a handbook using a check list form. The variables related to the evaluation of the pain as scale and time of application were verified according to the age group with the child and analyzed with the help of the software Statistical Package for the Social Science, 21.0 version. Results: It was observed that the majority of children was male (55%), with mean age of 7,55 ± 3,00 years old and a pain scale more used was the numeric one (60%). The assessment of pain by the health group was not reported by any of the children. The most used form of treatment was drug therapy through the use of dipyrone in the intravenous or oral routes, and in 20% of the children the non-pharmacological treatment of the type cold compress. The incidence rate of acute postoperative pain in children was 60%, since 45% reported moderate pain and 15% severe pain.
