Ingestion of ultraprocessed foods is introduced as early as the first years of life. The consequence of bad eating habits is that, every three Brazilian children, one is overweight. In this perspective, the school is an environment conducive to the implementation of continuous methodological strategies, which help in the construction of a healthy eating habit, being the teacher of extreme importance for the development of Food and Nutrition Education activities. In view of the above, this study aims to evaluate the perception of teachers in the public school system of the city of Arara, Paraíba, regarding the use of Food and Nutrition as transversal themes of the school curriculum. It is a transversal study, field-based, qualitative-quantitative study conducted using a structured questionnaire. The sample consisted of 20 teachers from 5 municipal public schools in the urban area of the city of Arara, Paraíba. Based on the analyzes, it was possible to identify the presence of food and nutrition in the planning of teaching of all teachers, in addition, half of the interviewees viewed such topics being more approached in science textbooks. All the complementary resources mentioned in the questionnaire are used by teachers during classes, among them posters, films, crosswords, children's stories and songs, however, 95% of the teachers stated that they did not have any training related to food and nutrition, security and have mastery to teach the subjects in the classroom. Therefore, they mentioned knowing the PNAE, but the analysis of the interviews made it possible to identify difficulties in the practice of the teacher allusive to the construction of concepts. In addition, the teachers interviewed stated that they did not know the Law of Guidelines and Bases that inserts the EAN as a transversal theme of the school curriculum. It is concluded that the teachers need specific teaching materials that favor the expansion of knowledge, being extremely important the development of formations that approach pedagogical methodologies applicable to the reality of the students and it is necessary that there is a greater partnership between parents and / or guardians and school staff to promote the promotion of healthy eating habits.
