Abstract:
Hunger, nowadays, can be understood as a phenomenon resulting from social, economic and political inequalities, but along the years it was believed that this was originated from natural issues or even by the scarcity of food. In the media, hunger managed to be seen to a great extent and began to gain prominence with the movement of the Action of citizenship, against misery, hunger and life. Today, few studies have portrayed the theme of hunger in the media, especially in newspapers. Therefore, the objective of this study is to analyze the frequency of the hunger theme in the matters published in newspapers in Brazil, in the range between 2017 and 2018. As a methodology, this is a retrospective study of character documental and of nature qualitative and quantitative, through the analysis of matters that address the theme of hunger, collected in the newspapers "Folha de S. Paulo", "O Globo" and in the alternative newspaper "El País ". The period analyzed was between August 2017 and August 2018. An adapted questionnaire instrumentalized data collection, organized in the SPSS program, and subsequently analyzed. The results showed that, of the 41 matters analyzed, there was a higher frequency in the number of publications on hunger in the southeast (56.1%) and a lower frequency in the Northeast region (4.9%); Similarly, as for representation, case reports obtained Higher percentage (36.6%), followed by the relationship between hunger and partisan policies (26.8%); As for nature, there was a higher frequency gives hunger seen as a social and political phenomenon (51.2%), social/economic (48.8%) and none as a natural phenomenon; and about the highlight given by the newspapers, of all publications analyzed, the subject was cape in only two publications (4.9%). It is possible to conclude that there was an advance in relation to the concept of hunger, the frequency with which hunger was mentioned increased during the period studied due to the setbacks in social policies and controversial issues in this period, but despite the considerable number of matters on the thematic, hunger has not gained prominence in the newspapers as the other subjects. The media has given relevance to other themes, while there are people in a hunger situation.
