The dropout and school failure are nowadays among the major problems of our educational system are studied relatively intensively, i.e., through numerical data, quote, IDEB (Index of Development of Basic Education). Some researchers point to the existence of various deficiencies among low-income children, these deficiencies that are both cognitive and affective nature and social order. In this paper we report a study from the difficulties faced in solving mathematical operations for our students. To this end, the study was conducted with a group of 6th grade of elementary school of Municipal Elementary School Ana Maria Gomes, located in Picuí -PB. We seek to develop activities on operations in different contexts. We conduct activities involving different issues with the four operations, issues with the ready-made operations and contextual issues, the last in order, from which it was possible to observe, proceeded to the proper identification of the mathematical operation. This study helped identify students' difficulties and pointing pedagogical alternatives. The results allowed us a greater understanding of how knowledge of our students has been developed and, from what has been found, search for methodological innovations that contribute to their learning, enabling a more effective didactic- pedagogical teacher intervention in the room classroom.
