Resumo:
This research aims to carry out a socioeconomic and environmental study, but
also verify sustainability in settlement Jacú, located in the municipality of Pombal-PB,
analyze the quality of life of the settlers, through health issues, education, leisure, housing ,
health aspects and ownership of assets, assess the environmental perception of the settlers
through the environmental index, assessing the social capital ratio through collective actions
and associations and assess sustainability in the settlement. From these informal contacts with
the settlers listening to them attentively I felt the need to search harder the situation of each
individual, because some are unhappy on issues relating to the internal organization of the
settlement where they produce empirically, lacking purchasing records or sales with respect to
type of farming, quantities produced and marketed values. For information, this tool that
makes up an essential resource for success and adaptation of agriculture, with specificity the
family farm in a competitive environment, it is noteworthy to reliable information gathering
and analysis for management purposes where the drive administrator production can decide
possible alternatives to improve their business and consequently the family's welfare. This
work was carried out in March 2014 and questionnaires directly with the settlers and the
leaders of the settlements. To make the calculation of durable consumer goods by the settlers,
prepared an estimate of the income conditions with durable consumption goods distributed in
three sets, directly related to the cost of obtaining and maintaining. By analyzing the social
capital index was observed in the community rather high index 0.9943, where several factors
may have contributed positively so that it was high, such as the participation in association
activities. With respect to soil conservation practices, it is observed that 96% of respondent’s
residents do not use any practice to minimize the effects of land degradation, whereas only
4% of respondents use mechanical practices for conservation. The environmental index value
was satisfactory, of 0.5720, being the pest control method that contributes most to the index
with 50%, the legal reserve contributed 25%, it is noteworthy that the legal reserve in
accordance with the Forest Code corresponds to 20% of native forest, however, this area in
settlement Jacú exceeds 20%. Given the results, we can conclude that the quality of life index
of the settlers variables that contributed most were health, education and ownership of durable
goods. For the social capital index, all variables contributed the same amount, demonstrating
that the settlement there is an associative view. In environmental analysis, the settlers require
some changes especially in relation to the variables related to soil conservation and
sustainability index, the variable capital, it was the largest contributor. The environmental
variable that has contributed to a lower value, however, the overall sustainability index was
high.
