Abstract:
A study of the occurrence of mesospherics bores was carried out in Sao Joao do Cariri -
PB (7,4°S 36,5°W), the equatorial region. It was analyzed 2 years of imager and
photometer data from September 2000 to September 2002 using the airglow emission
intensities OH. O: e 015577. An all-sky CCD imager and photometer were operated in
collaboration with Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (INPE). It was detected 64
events as an event of mesospheric bore. No seasonal behavior was observed. The model
of Dewan and Picard (1998, 2001) was tested in order to explain the results of
observation. It was also analyzed the following aspects: cases of multiples bores in the
same night, parameters of wave train, behavior of emission intensity and rotational
temperature under bore effects, and behavior of mesospheric duct and its implications to
complementarity High activity of gravity waves was observed before the bore events in
most of the case in agreement with the generation mechanism proposed by Dewan and
Picard (1998, 2001).
