Based on the high incidence of overweight and obesity worldwide, diets for weight loss are strongly demanded by the population, such as the intermittent fasting diet, which recently gained prominence and became known as a "fad diet." Although he is aware of the efficacy and feasibility of using the method for weight loss. Based on the possibilities, it was aimed to expose in this work, as healthy body composition changes through the intermittent fasting method, as well as to analyze the adverse effects that may or may not appear at the end of the intervention. Therefore, a bibliographic search was carried out through a computerized database, such as PUBMED, GOOGLE ACADEMICO, MEDLINE and PERIÓDICO CAPES, with articles published between the years 2007 and 2017. The periodicals used in the present study have as objective the collected studies protocol. The presentation of the results in the organized in tables, graphs and in an argumentative character. At the end, 12 articles of clinical and / or randomized trials were found in humans considering 4 subclasses of the intermittent fasting method. A great majority of the studies, such as indicative of good quality, presenting only 1 study with quality quality. On the body composition standard, such as: body weight, fat mass, waist, lean mass and lipid values, were related to an intervention in all the items found. Overall, there are studies showing that the intermittent fasting method goes far beyond "fashion" and that it is used correctly, respecting individuality and professional accompaniment, can favor healthy weight loss, showing to be a limited but method to treat problems of overweight and obesity.
