Resumen:
The success of an endodontic treatment is primarily related to the hermetic and
three-dimensional obturation of the root canal system. The obturator material
must occupy all the space of the removed pulp, be dimensionally stable and
biologically compatible, providing a favorable environment to process of tissue
repairing. Gutta-percha cones are the common material used on the obturation of
the root canal filling ,however, is a bioinerte material which doesn’t contribute to
the formation of mineralized tissue, essential condition to obtain clinical success.
The aim of this study was to modify the surface of the Endodontic cones of guttapercha
and developing a bioactivity process by the Biomimetic method, favoring
the apical repair for the deposition of the mineralized tissue by the organism. For
the surface modification of gutta-percha cones was performed a prior chemical
treatment with hydrogen peroxide at 30%, for times 2,4 and 6 hours in order to
change the polarity of the surface and consequently it’s surface tension allowing
better conditions for bioceramic film deposition performed by Biomimetic method
by two cycles of 7 and 14 days. The characterization techniques used in this
study were: Surface tension (ST), the Scanning Electron Microscopy and Energydispersive
X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), Fourier transform infrared
spectroscopy (FTIR), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Degradation in simulated
biological environment. The results obtained by ST, SEM-EDS, FTIR, XRD
showed that the solution of H2O2 in 30% was adequate as method of modification
of the surface of the cones DE and TE, it allowed the formation of functional
hydrophilic groups which acted as sites for the nucleation and formation of
apatite crystals by biomimetic method. The biodegradation test showed that the
gutta-percha cones DE and TE exhibit great resistance to degradation under the
conditions used in this work.
