Resumo:
It is defined as drug interaction when the effects and / or toxicity of one drug are altered by the
presence of another. Regardless of whether it results in positive or negative effects, the
interactions are generally unpredictable and undesirable in pharmacotherapy. The relationship
between the great demand for prescription drugs and the potential risk of interactions between
these drugs is frequent, which is still a problem today in public and private hospitals.
possibilities of adverse drug-drug interaction risks in prescriptions of patients admitted to the
Hospital Municipal Cuité. A descriptive research was carried out, with a quantitative and
qualitative approach. The data collection was done in the period from April to July 2017, from
the medical prescriptions of the hospital. The data were collected through a specific form for
this purpose. The Drug-Reax System of the Micromedex® Health Series software was used to
identify the potential interactions. Among the 325 prescriptions evaluated, 120 (36.92%)
presented some interaction, totaling 214 potential interactions. The profile of the majority of
the interactions found was: mostly female, higher degree of severity, reasonable documentation
and unspecified onset of action. A median of 3.59 prescription medications was observed. The
majority of patients who used between 6 and 10 drugs had some type of interaction.
Polypharmacy can be considered a risk factor for the occurrence of interactions. The obtained
results show that the emergence of interactions in the hospital has a high prevalence. The use
of combinations that may cause drug interactions is justified by its risk / benefit, which should
be evaluated by the pharmacist and health staff. To reduce the occurrence of possible
interactions, it is essential to monitor prescriptions and it is necessary for health professionals
to be aware of the mechanisms of action of potential interactions for continuous and effective
monitoring of patients, thus improving clinical management and avoiding complications that
may occur.
