Resumo:
Breast cancer is a significant public health problem for women and the leading cause of death
from non-communicable diseases around the world. And the pharmaceutical professional
presents itself as an essential element to the pharmacotherapeutic treatment in oncology. Their
performance is important in several stages of antineoplastic therapy and their assignments aim
at an effective, safe and less impactful treatment for patients, with the intention to lead to
healing, but also to ease the suffering and promote care throughout the route. The objective of
this is study was to carry out a literary review on pharmaceutical care in the treatment of
breast cancer and the improvement of the therapy when it has a pharmaceutical professional
working in it. Their respective references were obtained from the electronic databases:
Medline, Pubmed, Lilacs, SciELO and from the national and international health committees,
in which the words "breast cancer", "oncology”, "pharmaceutical care", "treatment of breast
cancer", "performance of the pharmacist in the care", "therapeutic follow-up of breast cancer",
as well as their combinations and their respective terms in English were used as descriptors
for research of international articles, following as inclusion criteria: articles published in
national and international journals, published in periodicals over a period of six years (2012-
2017). Pharmaceutical care has generated a series of discussions, several studies carried out in
recent years, report that it is of great relevance and really positively help the drug therapies.
Studies on pharmaceutical care in breast cancer are still scarce, yet they demonstrate
comprehensive benefits of pharmaceutical monitoring. Analyzing the articles, it was possible
to conclude that the presence of the pharmacist is essential in guiding the use of the medicines
to try to minimize the risks, and to promote a safer and more effective therapy.
