Resumo:
The present work had as objective to investigate and analyze, from the interest of reading
through works Cartas de Amor by the writer Mariana Alcoforado and Amor de Perdição by
the author Camilo Castelo Branco, taken as an object of study, what are the types of losses
that happen frequently, in consequence of loving relationships. The analysis was performed
around of the protagonists of such works Mariana and Chamilly, Teresa and Simão,
respectively, especially from the thematic point of view of this work, the aspect by which both
resemble each other. It has discussed still, the loss of love, based on the information contained
in the letters, genre that constitute as one of the bridges of dialogue also among the characters,
objects of the study. It presents as theoretical background the psychoanalytic studies of Freud
(1917) that make a relation between mourning and melancholia. It’s based too on Moisés
(2008), Pavanelo (2009), Prado (2010), Saraiva (1984), among others. The research is
characterized as qualitative and descriptive. At the end, achieved our goals and taking into
consideration all the analysis, we see that loving feeling, when it’s matched, can generate an
immense satisfaction in the person, but can also be a way of much suffering, from the moment
that causes the loss of the beloved person, and even a possible loss of the ego.
