Resumen:
From the beginning of humanity the human being needed to appropriate the mineral resources for his usufruct, and the extraction of sand is an example of this. Its large-scale extraction can lead to several environmental impacts, thus becoming an environmental problem. From this context, the present work aims to promote an environmental awareness about the problem of sand extraction in two schools of the public network, located in the state of Rio Grande do Norte. The present study was developed with Teresinha Carolino de Souza in Jaçanã / RN and João Henrique Dantas in Carnaúba dos Dantas / RN. The methodology applied was qualitative and quantitative, which were developed in four stages: questionnaire application, lecture, folders delivery, application of a second questionnaire. In view of the obtained results it is possible to notice that the students have some previous knowledge about the use of sand, but they can not associate the damages that their excessive withdrawal causes to the environment. Most found the activities developed quite satisfactory. It was possible to perceive that the actions provided a possible environmental awareness that did not exist before the accomplishment of the pedagogical interventions. It is thus perceived that there is a need to develop pedagogical activities that provide students with environmental awareness about the extraction of sand, because it is an environmental issue that involves their cities and their state.
