Abstract:
This research study aim shows some possibilities of the teaching Mathematics to deaf students in the regular education. Therefore, we conducted a research about contents of area and perimeter performed with a deaf student of the 6th grade of a state school in interior of Paraíba. Theories utilized in the construction of this article involve the literature on the deaf education, its inclusion in regular schools, the work of the interpreter, the socio-cultural view of the mathematical learning of the deaf and the right to special educational services. The qualitative research involved: a deaf student of the 6th grade of elementary school, the mother of the deaf student and the student's mathematics teacher. The analyzed informations were collected from: teacher-researcher's field diary, activities performed by student and evaluation activity performed with all students in the class. This work presents different ways to teach mathematics for deaf students. Furthermore, it point out the need for students, parents and teachers to know the Brazilian Sign Language (LIBRAS). When the teacher doesn't know this language he needs to have an interpreter in the classroom to improve the learning. We have also noticed the importance of family and school partnership in the teaching and learning process of deaf students.
