Abstract:
Urinary tract infection (UTI) is characterized by the invasion and multiplication of potentially pathogenic microorganisms in any segment of the urinary tract. Among the complications of UTI in pregnancy are prematurity, intrauterine growth restriction, low birth weight, cerebral palsy, mental retardation, infection, multiple organ failure, and death. The objective of this study was to evaluate the prevalence and profile of pregnant women with self-reported urinary infection in the municipality of Santa Cruz / RN. The present study was developed with 30 pregnant women and in the UBS of the districts Centro, DNER and Conjunto Cônego Monte. The methodology used was a quantitative descriptive research through semi-structured questionnaires. Considering the results obtained, it is possible to notice that the pregnant women studied had ages between 14 and 43 years, 43.4% declared themselves single. 50% were overweight and 20% used tobacco. A prevalence of 33.3% of pregnant women with UTI was verified, most of them underwent uroculture examination (86.7%) and believe that UTI brings harm to the mother (96.4%) and to the fetus (76.6%). There was no significant variation between the prevalence of UTI in pregnant women with the demographic and obstetric history variables studied. The results demonstrate the need to maintain and innovate new health education strategies regarding UTI during pregnancy.
