Résumé:
Campina Grande, once considered quiet, has been described by the media, public safety
officials, and the population in general as a violent place. This has helped to build different
patterns of sociabilities and occupation of urban space mediated by fear. Furthermore,
violence has promoted a symbolic reorganization, classifying - often in stereotypical and
prejudiced way - territories and social groups in dangerous or not dangerous, then, relating it
to forms of segregation and discrimination. In Campina Grande, at least a decade, fear of
violence has been one of the strongest brands in the urban experience. Violence has delimited
paths, marked distances, organized sociability and established social boundaries. This
Master's thesis has as its theme the relationship between violence, sociabilitie, territories and
ethnic-racial relations in housing Severino Cabral located in Campina Grande - PB. In this
research, from an ethnographic experience, I watched how the violence has been central to the
organization of everyday social practices within the locality. Real or imagined - The violence
comes mediating different types of interactions and ways of occupying public space, as well
as symbolically organize Severino Cabral conflicts between neighbors and neighborhoods.
