Practices and spiritual / religious beliefs show a strong consequence in the assistance of the most diverse situations of imbalance in the health of the people, in the preparation for the death and even in the interpersonal relations of the health professionals. When the individual finds in religion one of the alternatives for his inner longings, Religious leaders are the main guiding in the process of superation of the desease. Spirituality is used as a complementary alternative in cancer confront and it is not known if this alternative is satisfactory, so there is a need for spirituality and biomedical care to occur simultaneously during patient care. The aim of this study is to know the opinion of religious leaders, health professionals and community about influence of religion/spirituality in the fight against cancer. It is an exploratory-descriptive study of predominantly qualitative nature, methodologically based on historical and dialectical materialism. The research will be conducted with religious leaders, health professionals who works in the community and community members who seeks religion / spirituality as a complementary alternative in the cancer confront. The results showed the profile sóciodemográfico description and construction of an analytical category "dichotomy of religion: positive and negative aspects in the fight against cancer and five empirical categories: 1. Positive influence of religion; 2. Negative influence of religion; 3. Religion as complementary alternative; 4. Acceptance of cancer through religion; 5. spiritual Support given by the health care professional. It is concluded that the religion/spirituality can be an alternative therapy to fight cancer.
