Abstract:
School dropout is a recurring theme at all levels of education. Specifically at the higher level this premise is clearly observed in the Exact Sciences courses. For this reason this work arose from a desire to analyze which reasons lead to dropout and to seek subsidies to understand the problems faced by students in the undergraduate chemistry course at CFP-UFCG campus of Cajazeiras. Initially, a bibliographic research was carried out, in order to collect theories from authors who study the theme, for this, books and scientific articles were consulted. Soon after the questionnaire was prepared which was applied to 26 evaded students in order to address the following factors: economic, social and academic development. Research is considered field research and is used to obtain information and knowledge about a problem for which an answer is sought. Then, it was found that students from all periods since its implementation in 2011.1, until the last class that joined in 2016.1, were investigated, and admission to the course occurs once a year. It was found that the discipline that the students felt the most difficult was Differential and Integral Calculus I, because it obtained a percentage of 69% of the research universe. From the obtained results it is possible to conclude that a viable alternative for the best course progress would be the implementation in the curriculum of a basic Mathematics discipline.
