Abstract:
Water is one of humanity's most precious environmental resources. Brazil is a privileged country in relation to the availability of water. However, even with the great availability of water resources, the country has been suffering from the devastating shortage of drinking water in many places. In the municipality of Frei Martinho - PB (inserted in the drought polygon) few studies were carried out on the characteristics of its waters. The present work aims to evaluate the physico-chemical properties of samples from artesian wells and the municipality of Frei Martinho - PB reservoir. The methodology involved water samples from five wells in the rural area, where it is consumed by a segment of the rural and urban population of the municipality and a sample of the municipal reservoir. The parameters studied were pH, turbidity, chloride content, total hardness, electrical conductivity and total dissolved solids. The classification of potability was based on the physico-chemical parameters Portaria nº 2,914, of December 12, 2011 of the Ministry of Health. The analyzes of hardness for the waters of the municipal dam are in agreement with the value allowed by the ministry of health, since For wells (wells 4 and 5) the hardness analyzes presented high values; Above 500 mg / L of CaCO3, these waters are classified as very hard. The alkalinity varied between 96 and 464.6 mg / L, and the electrical conductivity measurements presented values between 204.1 and 3393.3 μS / cm-1, whereas for the total dissolved solids presented values ranging from 130.62 to 2171, 7 mg / L. Thus, it is considered that monitoring is necessary and of extreme importance with more careful analyzes that can contribute to elucidate more and more the inherent characteristics of this matrix.
