Résumé:
Vegetation is a natural resource of economic and environmental importance. In the backlands
northeastern region, where there is a predominance of caatinga vegetation; inappropriate agricultural practices
are largely responsible for the process of clearing this type of vegetation
triggering consequences such as soil degradation, erosion and desertification,
contributing to the loss of fauna and flora and low agricultural productivity. In the municipality of
Carrapateira / PB, deforestation is the main cause of deterioration of the caatinga vegetation,
this could be understood as the result of use without conservationist measures,
highlighting the deficiency in the orientation and awareness of the farmer regarding the use and
conservation of local land and vegetation. The territory of the municipality is inserted in
northeastern semi-arid region, where the climate is mostly hot and dry, with
rainfall, besides low, irregular; with averages around 800mm / year, with periods
prolonged dry Located in the western region of Paraíba State, the municipality of

2
. The municipal headquarters is on a
altitude of 380 m and geographical location of 38º 20 ’38’ WGr west and 07º 02 ’20’ S.
The present work aimed to analyze the pasture formation and its implications for
deforestation in the municipality of Carrapateira / PB. The methodology was based on the analysis of
images, data from the IBGE (agricultural census from 1996 to 2010) and other literature on the
deforestation and pasture formation, seeking to compile information, documents and
references published in the most varied media. The results suggested that
the local reality of a landscape that is undergoing very severe destructive action is real;
exposing an imposed devastation resulting from human action in changing the patterns of
social and economic organization of the municipal territory.
