Resumen:
Faced with urban sprawl, riparian forests of the watercourses are being reduced by
various uses and land occupation. These ecosystems, besides the function of protecting the
also play an important role in soil protection, dispersal and
reproduction of fauna and flora, among other functions. Given the importance of these units
their conservation is imperative. The purpose of this research was to identify the causes and
the impacts of riparian forest devastation along a Salgado de Lavras
Mangabeira - CE, in the urban perimeter, since the area goes through a process of
transformation as a consequence of disorderly urbanization. The area was observed from
systematic way. It was made use of the application CR Campeiro 7, besides the program Google
Earth Pro and QGIS 2.8 for mapping and imagery. This search also
highlights some important points of the New Brazilian Forest Code that states that the
marginal streams of the watercourses are Areas of Permanent Preservation. In the area there are
housing construction, solid waste disposal and domestic sewage, as well as pasture
for animals and the construction of a public work. This research points to the need for
conservation not only of the analyzed area, but also of all the riparian forests of
water It also points to the importance of training more ethical citizens who are committed to
the protection of the environment.
