Resumo:
Teaching the discipline of Chemistry making use of its history is of paramount importance to
the life of any individual because the methodology can provide a broader understanding of
concepts and facts that have marked and mark the history of science. In this perspective,
alternative methodologies appear as tools to improve the teaching practice in the life of
undergraduates in this area of knowledge. The present work is a qualitative and participatory
research carried out with undergraduate students of the Chemistry Degree Course of the
Federal University of Campina Grande on the campus of Cajazeiras interior of the state of
Paraíba and its main objective was to understand the perspectives of undergraduates in
relation to their future professional practice, with specificity in the scope of the use of the
History of Chemistry as a methodological tool in the classroom. A bibliographical research
was carried out to obtain a theoretical and methodological basis, as well as the application of a
questionnaire and finally the development of an alternative methodology by the
undergraduates researched together with students of Basic Education. It was discussed about
the challenges and contributions that the use of the History of Chemistry as a methodological
aspect can bring to the future professional practice of undergraduate students in Chemistry, as
well as their role of mediator in the teaching and learning process. At the end of the study it is
observed that the consolidated formation of chemistry teachers apt and aware of the
importance of methodological diversification using historical concepts and precepts, together
with the basic education students' wishes for dynamic and attractive classes, can evolve the
learning of both, thus breaking the view that the discipline in question is monotonous and
difficult.
