Resumo:
To know the perception of the caregiver about the influence of religiosity / spirituality in the care of children with cancer. Method: a descriptive-exploratory study, conducted through a semi-structured interview with caregivers of children with cancer who were being followed by the Durval Paiva Child Support House in the state of Rio Grande do Norte. The material was collected in November 2015 and analyzed using the thematic analysis technique that allowed the creation of the categories: Religiosity and spirituality: (in) definitions, the Manifestations of spirituality / religiosity, and the subcategory: the belief in God in the coping with the disease. Results: Although mothers had difficulty distinguishing spirituality and religiosity, they were able to individually express their faith in caring for the child with cancer through prayers, books and music. It was observed that childhood illness brought changes in family dynamics and religiosity / spirituality were also foundations for dealing with this disorder. Final Considerations: Spirituality / religiosity was present in the stories of all caregivers, serving as a support for facing the disease.
