Resumo:
This study aimed to analyze hospitalizations for respiratory diseases in children under the age
of four at the University Hospital Júlio Bandeira - HUJB. The data analyzed were obtained
through Process Management and Information Technology Sector (PMIT), more specifically
the sense of hospitalizations of the Child and Adolescent Health Unit (CAHU) in the year
2018. The results showed that there are periods in the year in which the number of
hospitalizations has a significant increase, these being the driest periods of the year, showing
that in periods of drought there is an increase in the number of cases of respiratory diseases.
The main causes of hospitalization are related to pneumonia, which represent more than 80%
of the cases. Most hospitalizations were concentrated in the age range of zero to two years of
age, revealing a vulnerability to respiratory diseases in children under two years of age. In
addition, this study emphasizes the importance of epidemiological research in hospitals, since
it can guide planning and prevention actions based on the recurrence of pathologies.
