Abstract:
Neoplastic wounds that affect the skin are another injury in the life of cancer patients because, increasingly, disfigure the body and become friable, painful, secretive and release foul odor. In this sense, the nurse is the professional member of the multidisciplinary team that is more in touch with the patient and conducting the assessment and treatment of wounds; for this reason, it is vitally important to understand the experiences in the relational environment of the nurse-patient dyad. From this perspective, this research aimed to understand the experiences of nurses in the care of patients with neoplastic wounds. This is an exploratory study, qualitative, in a philanthropic hospital that provides care to patients with advanced cancer, attended by 20 assistant nurses. Data were collected from April to June 2016 through semi-structured interviews, after approval by the Ethics in University Hospital Research Alcides Carneiro Committee under opinion No. 1,320,367 and analyzed by the Bardin Content Analysis Technique . It could be observed that the nurses understand care as science and art of nursing, given that perform a humanized and holistic care; develop empathic abilities against the patient's suffering; face some difficulties facing the care of patients with neoplastic wound, such as lack of institutional protocol, lack of material resources, reduced number of professional and continuous contact with the patient's suffering against the chronicity of the injury. It follows, therefore, that the locus institution of research design and implement strategies that address these difficulties, in order to improve the process of care for patients with malignant wounds, among them the implementation of continuing education and spaces for discussion of experiences professionals who deal with patients with advanced cancer.
