Résumé:
INTRODUCTION: The follow up of the health of the child by the nurse professional is done from the first days of life and extends until the 6th year of age, which is carried out through the child care consultation. This method of monitoring provides specific care for each child, in order to meet the requirements proposed by the Ministry of Health (MS) according to the specifics of each age group. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the nurses' work process during child care consultation in children aged zero to six months. CONSIDERATIONS METHODOLOGY: This is an observational, descriptive, cross-sectional, quantitative-based evaluative study based on nine UBS's from a city in the interior of Paraíba, comprising a census population of nine nurses. Data collection was performed from September to October 2017 through an observational analysis of three childcare consultations in each UBS, as well as the application of a structured form directed to the nurses responsible for the service. RESULTS: After analyzing the data, it was observed that all stages of the child care consultation were classified as partially adequate by means of a comparison established with the Logical Model, being the highest score referring to the registration stage, reaching 67.14%, in contrast the stage destined to the evaluation of the routine of attendance reached 50% of the total of points, being classified as step less implemented by the participating nurses of the study. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: Given the analysis of the data obtained, it was noticed that the lack of professional qualification and the absence of an institutional protocol were characterized as the most evident gaps mentioned by the nurses, being necessary, therefore, the search for alternatives that ameliorate or these barriers to care for the child population.
