Population aging is a global phenomenon and also Brazil, which can be seen in the results of the most recent senses. The increase in the elderly population brings sociobiological changes, particularly the emergence of chronic diseases that are common in old age, such as diabetes mellitus (DM), which comes as an important cause of morbidity and mortality and decreased Quality of Life (QoL) among the elderly. Thus, there was the need to examine which dimensions of QoL are influenced by DM involvement. The objective of this study was to evaluate the faceted and global QoL of elderly patients with DM. This is a survey of exploratory and observational, quantitative, held in the micro-region of Paraiba state of West Curimataú. The sample consisted of 87 elderly and data were collected using two instruments: the socio-demographic / behavioral questionnaire and WHOQOL-old, after approval by the Ethics Committee of the Hospital Universitário Alcides Carneiro, Federal University of Campina Grande an opinion No. 844,702. The results show that most of the individuals were between 60 to 74 years, it is female, married, have income up to one minimum wage and sedentary lifestyle, since 60.9% reported not practicing regular exercise. The facets that make up the QoL construct, stood out "Activities Past, Present and Future" (PPF) and "social participation" (PSO), which obtained the best and worst performance respectively (EBF = 14.84; EBF = 12, 99) pointing satisfaction about the life achievements and low participation in activities in the community. It is observed Thus, the study provides important contribution to the improvement of care to elderly patients with diabetes, especially the aspects that make up the QoL. It is important that health professionals are able to identify the characteristics of the community to which direct care and, together with the management, promote social interaction strategies of older people, through programs and social groups that address the various facets of QoL.
