Abstract:
Neoplastic painful wounds represent a burden for patients facing a prognostic terminal illness, since they are lesions that have no healing possibilities, disfigure the appearance and physical symptoms develop difficult to control. The aim of this study was to verify the knowledge and practice of nurses in the care of patients with neoplastic wounds. This is a quantitative design descriptive study of 22 nurses from a philanthropic hospital in Campina Grande - PB during the period April to June 2016. The instrument was a structured questionnaire with questions about the care of patients with neoplastic wounds, guided by the protocol in the Ministry of Health. For data analysis we used descriptive statistics and literature. It should be noted that the research was based pursuant to Resolution No. 466/2012 of the National Health Council (CNS), respecting the regulatory guidelines involving human research. The results obtained in this study allowed, in general, identifying that nurses have gaps in knowledge content and techniques for evaluation and treatment of patients with neoplastic wounds. In addition, it was found that nurses do not perform the appropriate care to this population. In conclusion, the research locus institution needs to invest in continuing education in order to train the nursing staff for monitoring of patients with neoplastic lesions, acquire necessary materials and implement care protocols to guide the practice of evaluation and therapeutic methods in the care people with malignant wounds, families and caregivers.
