Resumo:
The elderly population has been growing and gaining more visibility in recent years, making
it necessary for health services and managers to be prepared to attend to this group in an
integral way. In addition, it is necessary to emphasize that it is practically impossible to speak
of completeness and to exclude sexuality, since it is a subject of considerable relevance, but it
generates annoyance between people, since it deals with the intimacy and something that is
usually had as prohibited by society. The study aimed to provide a rethinking of the sexuality
of the elderly from the taboos imposed on society in society. This is a descriptive research,
qualitative approach of the research-action type, carried out with 10 elderly residents of the
condominium housing City mature located in the municipality of Cajazeiras-PB. The data
collection was done through a semi-structured interview, and for the organization of the data
obtained in the interview, it was used the methodological process of the Discourse of the
Collective Subject (DSC), which is a way of obtaining the collective discourse based on the
individual discourses, after health education interventions were made and again the
participant's speech was collected. The research began after the approval of the project by the
Research Ethics Committee under opinion nº 2.338.566. The present research aimed to know
the need of a group of elderly people on issues related to sexuality, in order to offer subsidies
for the planning and implementation of educational actions based on action research in order
to transform a given reality. It is possible to notice that the society is still marked by restricted
vision and full of prejudices, manifesting significant resistance when considering and
welcoming the elderly as being able to experience their sexuality. It was evidenced in this
research the importance of health professionals in having awareness and vision about health
education in a liberating way, respecting and valuing the human being in its entirety, not
being able to exclude sexuality because of the subject's age, since it is something that goes
beyond the limits.
