Résumé:
The solidarity economy is nowadays presented as an alternative to the world of unemployment, with ecological awareness and as a way to promote social and economic equality. Paulo Freire (1987) ratifies this idea when he states that it represents something new and hopeful for the future of popular education in Latin America and for a new world economic order. From this definition, this work aimed to identify the characteristics of the Solidarity Economy in the practices of the organic garden developed by AMUABAS (Association of Residents and Users of Water of the Sumé Basin), in the municipality of Sumé - PB, as a social contribution instrument. and economical for the individual and the environment in which he is inserted. Some elements that ratify such characteristics are listed throughout this work, demonstrating how they can influence the social reality of a community. The methodology used the case study of the aforementioned Association, having been applied questionnaires directly with the members and visits in loco. As a result, it was observed that the characteristics of the solidary economy inserted in the association's practices
benefit members who work with the organic garden as a complementary source of family income as an economic dimension, self-managed, mutual collaboration and solidarity between the subjects. In this sense, the solidary economy represents for these associates an option for personal and collective economic development based on sustainability.
