Resumo:
Respiratory syncytial virus is the most prevalent agent respiratory infection in children. Data on seasonality of infections caused by the virus in Brazil are generally obtained only in the South and Southeast of the country, although there are studies on this subject in the city of Fortaleza, in northeastern Brazil. The purpose of this study was to investigate the presence of RSV in health team professionals (doctors, nurses and nursing technicians) who work at the University Hospital Júlio Flag (HUJB), in the northeastern region. Nasopharyngeal aspirates of health professionals who work directly in meeting the children were collected and tested for the respiratory syncytial virus antigens during the month of May 2016. The samples were tested immediately after collection and centrifugation, and viral antigens were investigated with procedure immunochromatography, using the card-RSV BinaxNOW Kit. We found that the antigens of Respiratory Syncytial Virus detected by immunochromatography technique, were present in some professional health team active in HUJB-UFCG. Emphatically, three (6.97%) of health workers tested positive for the presence of this virus antigens, and were in functional class of nursing technicians.
