Abstract:
In the state of Paraíba has been carried out the construction and restoration of state roads through the Road Infrastructure Program Paths of Paraíba, a state public policy aimed at regional integration through road modes, contributing to the establishment of a new social dynamics, economic and cultural in the regions covered, however, triggering significant negative impacts on the environment, contributing to the degradation of the Caatinga. This work aims to analyze the social and environmental impacts from the paving of Paraiba Pathways program in the municipality of Coxixola - PB. Depending on the object, the research was descriptive exploratory, with quantitative and qualitative approach and held from March 2014 to March 2016. The data collection was done by applying semistructured interviews, direct observation and photographic records, as well as literature search on specific material on the theme in focus. The social research locus was the city of Coxixola -PB. Through the data, it was found that the paving of the PB-200 highway is a local social demand and encourages the emergence of new economic activities, as well as the feeling of "hope" for social change, however, triggers negative impacts on the physical environment, biological and anthropological, among which is emphasized: erosion, deforestation of native forests Caatinga and degradation of the health and safety of the population, which converge to the breakdown of different social relations and overcoming the carrying capacity of the local ecosystem. Thus, the implementation of the road project is feasible considering the demands and social benefits it brings, however, recommends the implementation of mitigation measures mitigating negative impacts on the different dimensions of the environment.
