Resumen:
Spirituality comes before the need for human complement to an institutional dimension in human life. Spiritual beliefs have shown that it is the best way for the quality of life, and the results more quickly in disease coping process, and stimulate self-care. This study aimed to reveal the limits and possibilities of the influence of the spiritual leader to attitudes that promote self-care. This research was exploratory-descriptive predominantly qualitative nature, methodologically based on historical and dialectical materialism, held with priests, pastors, spiritualists advisors and participants faithful from their religions in the city of Caico, Rio Grande do Norte, through interviews. For the analysis of the collected data was performed discourse analysis technique proposed by Fiorin. The results and discussion addressed the analytical category entitled "Encouraging self-care: limits and possibilities of influence of the spiritual leader" from the empirical categories: 1. The way the leader works, 2. Sense of religious influence, 3. leader of the Teachings, 4. Influence leader, 5. Teachings of doctrine and influencers. We conclude that the spiritual leaders of Catholicism, Protestantism and spiritualism can influence their faithful through guidance and encouragement to the attitudes that promote self-care. Since this leadership becomes positive, but at some point has limits in its operations against individuals. Which should emphasize that some believers are influenced completely and others leave not interfere in their personal decisions. In this way, the faithful are aware of this influence of the leader, and know the importance of the teachings passed on by these advisors.
