In health, the quality of care delivered to customers can be measured through the audit, one of the internal tools that the service provides for quality management. The aim of this study was to reveal the importance of using the audit as a strategy for quality of care in hospitals. We conducted an integrative literature review, with articles being searched in the databases LILACS, MEDLINE, SciELO and CAPES, the descriptors "Management Audit" (Management Audit), "Quality of Health Care" (Care Quality health), "Administration Hospital" (Hospital Administration). The sample consisted of ten works. The analyzed publications addressed the theme emphasizing four categories: The setting of the hospital audit today; The prospect of the hospital audit in the future; The role of the hospital auditor in continuing education; The importance of records in the patient for hospital audit. Thus, it is necessary to know the importance of auditing in health services targeting benefits to all stakeholders, professional improvement, the performance of the institution minimized costs, always emphasizing the quality of care provided to the client.
