Résumé:
The respiratory diseases have become a serious public health problem a few years ago, for
reaching the all population, indiscriminately. Among the infections, those that stand out are
Acute Respiratory Infections (IRAs) with great impact on the rate of hospitalization and
deaths, especially among children under five years of age, where the Respiratory Syncytial
Virus (RSV) stands out as a causative agent of these worldwide infections. In Brazil studies
prove that bronchiolitis is the main clinical manifestation of infection by this viral agent,
striking mainly children under five years of age, who are infected during contact with adults
who live most of the time. Although the epidemiological importance, studies in the
northeastern region are scarce. The purpose of this research is to detect the incidence and
seasonality of infections caused by the Respiratory Syncytial Virus in health professionals
active in University Hospital Júlio Bandeira, backwoods paraibano. It´s about a cross-
sectional study and descriptive of quantitative approach. The samples were obtained by nasal
aspirates collected from nursing team active in assistance of the children attended in this
health institution, being tested for RSV during the months of October of 2016 to June of 2017,
realized by immunochromatography, using the BinaxNOW Kit-RSV card. Were realized nasal
wash samples, being composed of 34 nasal collected from nurses (40,90%) and 46 technical
(55,49%). In the analyzed period we detected positive findings of antigenic proteins of
Syncytial Virus in samples from three of the nursing technical professionals, corresponding to
(3,61%) of this functional class.
