Resumo:
Childbirth is an experience that happens in a short period of time, but it implies expectations, fantasies and fears that are built long before it happens, according to the contexts and experiences of each woman. It is believed that the experience of women who had the opportunity to have someone they chose at their side during these events is different from those who experienced this experience alone, even though the professionals involved in the process offered the necessary care and comfort. The objective of this research is to analyze the knowledge of health professionals about the Law of the Accompanying Child (Law No. 11.108 / 2005). This is an exploratory-descriptive study from the perspective of a quantitative and qualitative approach. The research was carried out in Basic Family Health Units (UBSF's) of the urban area in the cities of Cuité, Barra de Santa Rosa, Picui and Nova Floresta, municipalities of Paraíba State (Brazil), located in the Curimataú and Seridó Paraibano microregions. In this study, the population consisted of health professionals who performed prenatal care at the UBSF's in the urban area of Cuité, Nova Floresta, Barra de Santa Rosa and Picuí. As a result of the analysis, it was noticed that health professionals are still unprepared and disconnected with the law that has been assured to pregnant women since 2005, this unpreparedness being related to the fact that some do not have deep knowledge about the law of the companion, expressed by the speeches during the work, so that this right constituted by law is not applied as it should. And the non-connection with Law 11.108 / 2005, because many professionals are still linked to the technocratic model of care, which does not allow interruptions or innovations in their work environment. In addition to these unprepared professionals who still exist in the market, often do not feel safe to perform certain techniques in the presence of the companion, or fear of possible questions about their care. Thus, it is believed that this study will contribute to instigate reflections of these professionals, help in the applicability of this principle.
