Is all premature newborn (NB) arising during the period between 22 and 36 weeks and 6 days
of gestation from the first day of your last period. Despite not knowing what its etiology,
some studies indicate maternal and neonatal factors that contribute to preterm birth. Thus, this
study aimed to: identify the profile of mothers and premature infants in the state of Paraíba.
This is a descriptive, cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach that uses the computer
department of the SUS, Datasus as a source of data, evaluating the number of premature births
in the period 2010 to 2012 the incidence of prematurity in the state was 10, 35%. Analyzing
maternal variables was highlighted that in the age groups 10-19 years 30-39 50% of these
premature births occurred, yet it was found that single mothers collaborated with 45.76% of
premature infants, and 44.66 % of them have 8-11 years of education. In gestational variables
it was found that 42.2% of women have joined the prenatal, reaching the recommended
number of queries, and with delivery taking place between 32 to 36 weeks (88.57%). Among
the neonatal variables, 98.3% have congenital anomaly. Thus, the study showed that despite
adherence to prenatal care, and the most educated mothers, maternal factors are major
contributors to preterm birth, making the necessary qualification of care in pregnancy and
intrapartal period.
