Abstract:
The practice of care directed to the male population in the contingent of Basic Attention, is
abstracted from prospects that confront challenges and that are related to the current masculine
hegemony, the culture, the historical factor and the social stigma; Thus impacting on the
construction of professional actions aimed at men, in their presence in the health scenario and
how they comprise the said health segment. Imbued with this subversion, the study sought to
investigate through discursive dialogues, the understanding that men measure about the health
actions promoted by Basic Attention and that focuses on this population exponent. This is a
descriptive study based on the qualitative approach, developed with male users of a Family
Health Team of the Primary Care of the city of Cajazeiras, Paraíba. The data were collected
through semi-structured interviews and analyzed before the premises of the discourse analysis.
The research began, after the approval of the project by the Research Ethics Committee under
opinion nº 1.844.255. Through an understanding of the conditions of production of the
elucidated discourses, it is possible to see that this scenario of attention incurs, in the male
construct, as an environment of demand for health care, a place to confront the disease and
obtain cure through professional action. The lack of knowledge of the structural principles of
disease prevention and health promotion that interrupt this service is encouraged. It is also
understood that emotional explanations that permeate the healthy condition and the demarcation
of an empty list of professional involvement, consolidating the distance of this population from
the health care setting. There are nuances of the biomedical model as a preponderant element
in the discourses, acting as an alibi in determining the demand of this segment for Basic
Attention. The socio-historical preponderance of male hegemony is analyzed, which directly
interferes with the perception of health care and the incorporation of the identity of being a man
in the face of illness. In this attempt, it is suggested the use of strategies in the conduct of actions
that reveal the invisibility masculinity in the service, valorization of its singularity, subjectivity
and its health emergency.
