Resumen:
Law 11.108, enacted in 2005, was created in order to allow the presence, with the mother, a companion of their choice during labor, delivery and immediate postpartum. Given the existence of this right, this study aimed to assess the knowledge of the Escort to the Labor Law (Law No. 11.108 of April 7, 2005) from the perspective of pregnant women in Curimataú and Seridó Paraiba. The methodological assumptions of this study were anchored in quantitative and qualitative approach to exploratory-descriptive. For the survey data and empirical material was used a semi-structured interview guide. The qualitative findings were tabulated and presented in the light of the Collective Subject Discourse and the quantitative findings were presented in the form of graphs and tables. The results showed that despite the enactment of Law 11.108/2005, it is noted that there is still a great need with regard to knowledge of its existence, thus thwarting and preventing their applicability in health services. The study shows that information about this Act is little circulation in health services that make up the research, which explains the high percentage of pregnant women surveyed reporting to have little or no knowledge of their rights. It is hoped that through this study, it is possible to generate discussions on the applicability and dissemination of Law 11.108 and the rights of pregnant women, stressing the importance of respecting them, allowing and entering the companion during labor, delivery and postpartum.
