Abstract:
In the Brazilian semiarid You can find a variety of venomous animals, within this ecosystem we can find a variety of venomous animals, including those treated as more dangerous as snakes, scorpions and spiders. Accidents involving these animals usually occur in remote rural areas and the most involved animals are snakes Bothrops, yellow scorpions and spiders Loxosceles. People deal with these occurrences, through the knowledge of plants and animal parts, thus utilizing alternative methods known as folk medicine. Thus, this work aimed to investigate the occurrence of accidents involving poisonous animals and the use of folk medicine in the rural town of Uiraúna-PB. The survey was conducted in the rural town of Uiraúna - PB. For the research ten rural communities were chosen. using a random sample of 53 people, are included in the study all the families of the surveyed communities, whose homes were open during the visit of the researcher and have a responsible adult available to answer the form, besides agreeing to participate voluntarily in the research. The results indicate that as to what they consider as an venomous animals 94.33%, where said that these are poisonous animals. When asked which venomous animals they knew, all respondents said they knew: snake, spiders and scorpions. Other animals like bees and centipedes were also cited. All respondents said they had come across some venomous animal, presenting various reactions, and killing the animal was the primary. Most respondents said they notice the reduction of these animals over time, especially for the slaughter; 30% of respondents claimed to have suffered attack by this type of animal. According to the interviewees the attacks occurred during work activities and even reported not wear protective gear. Of those who suffered attack, 37.5% sought medical help, others used home recipes for treatment. Some revenue through use of plant and animal parts, not only for animal attack, but also other types of diseases. The appearance of poisonous animals in rural Uiraúna - PB quite frequently, and the attacks often occur, as well as the use of alternative methods, which need to be better studied for the treatment of people affected.
