Resumen:
The Pap Smear is the exam realized to prevent the cancer of the cervix, is the best method for
to identified lesions in early stage and perform the diagnosis. Also prevent in case the patient
exhibits a Sexually Transmitted Infection. The sexually transmitted infection are among the
most common public health problems and is the second morbidity cause in women in
developing countries. In this way this study aims to evaluate the sexually transmitted infection
by the results of Pap smear not taken by women. This is a documentary study, exploratory
with a quantitative approach, realized in UBS-Casas Poplulares in the municipally of
Cajazeiras- PB. Was identified 113 results of Pap Smear exam not taken by women, of which
30 (26%) had positive results, and one Pap Smear exam showed positive result for two
sexually transmitted infection. The negatives results for sexually transmitted infection was
found in 82 (73%) report, pointing out that there was more 1 (1%) result in cellular alteration
probably neoplastic. The age range prevailed among the 30 (100%) positives results was a 14-
24 with 8 (27%) of cases and the 36-46 with 8 (27%). In the 82 (99%) negative results, the
age range prevailed was a 25-35 with 25 (30%). Regarding the onset of sexual activity, the
women with positives results for sexually transmitted infection, they had aged of 12-28 years,
the average was 18, 13 (±3, 11) years. In relation to the negative results to sexually
transmitted infection, the age was 12-38, the average was 19, 49 (±4,57) years. Regarding the
number of sexual partners, in the positive results for sexually transmitted infection, the
average was 1,72 (±1,21) partners. In the negative results, the number of partners was 1 to 7,
the average was 1,72 (±1,21) partners. For women with positive results to sexually
transmitted infection the age was 17 to 68 years, the average was 36, 26 (±13,84) years. In
relation to the negative results, the age was 14 to 85 years, the average was 41,71 years
(±16,43). The correlation between the initiation of sexual activity and the number of partners
was weak (0,14) for women of positive reports, and it was almost nil (0,018) for women
represented with negative reports. Of the 113 reports of Pap smear exam analyzed, 30 (26%)
had the positive results for sexually transmitted infection, 22 (71%) correspond to the
Vaginosis case and 9 (29%) to the Candidiasis case. It was concluded in this study, that exists
an accentuated number of women that not return to the health unit to recall the reports that
presents sexually transmitted infection. Evidences the importance of the return of patients to
the Basic Health Unit to recall the report of Pap Smear exam and, with the identification of
infections, it emphasizes not only the need to return, but also the presentation of the
examination to the competent professional that, in positive cases, can start the treatment early,
preventing the transmission and avoiding another infections and probably complications.
