Résumé:
INTRODUCTION: This study deals with the care of elderly people living with depression.
Depression has affected a significant number of people around the world and does not have a
specific public, since every subject is susceptible to this health problem. OBJECTIVE: To
identify, in literary findings, how multiprofessional care directed to the elderly affected by
depression occurs. METHODOLOGY: A literature review was adopted as methodology,
whose target population is elderly, since the cases of depression in this age group have grown
significantly and have worried the authorities and professionals who work in the area of
health. To construct the discussion we used the search sites Scielo, Lilacas, BIREME.
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: According to the literature, it was observed that depression
has reached the elderly population, which already lives with the predisposing factors of aging,
and that basic care needs to create mechanisms to cope with this health problem. , to qualify
the multiprofessional team to deal with this health condition of the elderly, considering that,
the literature demonstrates that health professionals present limitations on the more specific
knowledge related to depression and that only with the qualification of these professionals
will it be possible to minimize the impact of the depressive state on the elderly, the family and
society in general. CONCLUSION: It is concluded, therefore, that the role that health
professionals should exercise in relation to the elderly person who lives with depression
requires specific knowledge about this health problem, due to the complexity that this disease
presents. In this sense, all staff should be able to develop effective actions regarding the health
of the elderly, to solve, mitigate or delay problems, such as depression presented in this age
group. However, it is evident the need for the implementation or effective implementation of
mental health practices in the primary health care network, as an integral assistance of the
multiprofessional team with the health of the elderly.
