Abstract:
Ectopic pregnancy is a worldwide public health problem and a leading cause of maternal
morbidity and death arising conditions in the first half of pregnancy. The treatment can be
accomplished by surgery, medication or by watchful waiting, depending on the initial clinical
condition of the patient. The present study aimed to compare characteristics inherent to
medical treatment and surgery for women with ectopic pregnancy suitable for both. It opted
for an integrative review, in which the ectopic pregnancy descriptors are used, drug treatment,
methotrexate in ectopic pregnancy, surgical treatment of ectopic pregnancy, review, for
scientific foundation and construction work consultation was held in the databases:
PUBMED, SCIELO recruiting articles from 2005 to 2015 and the website of the Royal
College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, the selection resulted in six articles that met the
inclusion criteria of the study, and started reading and analysis of scientific production. After
thorough analysis of the articles were elected relevant notes with respect to the subject matter
and grouped with a view to facilitating comparison of the therapeutic modalities: therapeutic
success, costs, recurrence rate, future fertility and quality of life. The comparison showed
similar results in both groups of patients, with the exception of cost comparison. However by
existing restrictions on public health of our country, it is necessary studies related to this
reality, which would make the scientific evidence more applicable to clinical practice in
developing countries.
