Observing the popular education (PE) through a historical perspective, we understand that this model of educational thinking, began from civil society articulation around of the agenda of education in Brazil. Strengthening the PE, it was combined to it in an utopian attempt to change the Brazilian social reality, social agents, including university students, which through activities promoted with popular levels of society aimed to understand and study the reality of the oppressed people. One of the ways of approximation between university students and population was the extension, which based on the concepts of PE, it was named popular extension. Guided by these problematic and critical principles of making "combined the community" instead "to the community", arose projects engaged in the popular extension, between them the ENEC (National Internship of extensions in community), whose purpose is to approximate, health field's students and related fields, to the community reality through the experience in the communities, and to evoke to a critical analysis that deconstructs the limited perspective biologic and technician of the academy. The present study report experience of University Extension, guided by the Popular Education in Hortifrutigranjeiro Mamanguape community and reflect on the importance of valuing of popular knowledge for shared construction of knowledge. In addition, to report the personal experience of the life in the community. Through the qualitative methodology and the "snowball" method, where a key interviewed indicates another, which will indicate new contacts until the number of the interviewed have been completed, it was performed seven interviews. When comparing the results obtained with the existing literature it was noted some similarities regarding the difficulties faced by northeastern farmers, labor exploitation, health´s achievements and alimentation aspects. In face of this, it is necessary to highlight the importance to deepening the knowledge about historical roots, cultural, socials and economics from the communities which constitute our place, in order to promote and to integrate actions that reach usefully the local’s necessity where health professionals and related fields are inserted. Thus, we can apply one of the principles of extension and popular education: To construct new knowledges, to stimulate the dialogue and communitarian participation, which possibility the social reality transformation.
