The use of psychotropics drugs is part of human nature, aimed at modifying behavior, mood and emotions. The psychotropics medications are Central Nervous System (CNS) modifiers, which acts in psychiatric diseases with the purpose of providing stabilization or cure its clinical conditions. However, the excessive and indiscriminate use of psychotropics drugs has been considered a severe problem by professionals and health authorities because of the serious damage that this practice causes to the health of populations. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the prescribing and dispensing of psychotropic medication of users treated at Basic Pharmacy in the city of Cuité-PB. It corresponds to a cross-sectional study, quanti-qualitative and descriptive. Data were collected during the month of July 2015, from the questionnaires application. The prescription and its notifications were evaluated according to the information recorded by the prescriber and in the action of dispensation of medicines. 73 psychotropic users were interviewed in the city of Cuité-PB with prevalence of females (61,6%). The prevalent age group were adults, which accounted for 63%, followed by elderly (30,1%). The most dispensed psychotropic drugs were amitriptyline, diazepam, carbamazepine, phenobarbital and fluoxetine. There were no reports of serious adverse reactions, but patients who have tried to stop treatment, restarted with 1 or 2 months. As the prescriptions, the correct way of filling it and its notifications, in all analysed were found the correct information about patient and prescriber, but in 6,8%, the dosage and time weren’t often informed. It was observed the need for raising awareness among prescribers regarding rational prescribing, as well as the need for guidance by the pharmacist with the users.
